I'll have a good look through those links for sure, cheers.

The HDD is definitely on its way on that P4. I have another 98se P4 that has HalfLife1 on it, Colin McCrae Rally1 (with analogue MS steering), Civ1 and a load of other old games + with diff boot settings it plays older DOS games. With that one I cannot get any disk reading tools to read or image the very old IDE, the machine dies slowly a bit more every rare time it gets switched on, )8

The Voodoo card bit made me cringe, as I left that card in a PC at an X's nearly 20 years ago, I'll see if my brother still has his card.

I still have a little bit of old hardware left. Most of it got lost when i was out of the country for a few years and my sister tried to sell the house without TELLING me/us. One day i got a call from my neighbor telling me all my/our stuff was out on the street. She threw away a million euro worth of old stuff including a spacelab oscilloscope which been used to check parts for the Hubble telescope and other uber cool projects. And tons of old computers and parts. I not hate her but she is not welcome with us (my parents and me) anymore. And she failed to sell the house (DUH u greedy sneaky slut). At that time i was in Hong Kong and my parents were in Denmark. My nephews in Denmark. My neighbor he was ready to beat her up but thank god i managed to stop him and his dad.

Sorry back on-topic...

The other win98se box not being able to read any disk tools? Try start with only one CD-rom drive on IDE (primary IDE master port setup) with HIREN boot CD or FALCON CD. If the CD cannot load then MAYBE use a prepared old IDE drive with mister boot tool in the MBR of the drive.

On the other hand, maybe better just store the hardware for better days :-). In this/my new house here i have a small collection of vintage computers but i rather emulate on my new hardware then to touch the old stuff.

The old tea stain computer hehehe... 8-bit guy is showing quite a few vdeos where he demonstrates how to cleanup so they look new again. Dont follow his electronics skills as he has next to none LOL.

Let me study some of your other photos a bit.

OHHHH the other one (second two BBC photos) look quite nice!! Only a bit yellow (can fix that but who cares).

¨JOHN WXXXXX IS CRAP¨ the box is defiantly alive!!! 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-)

And that capacitor is blown i think (lol). Did you witness the explosion?

Some major updates for today:

Ubuntu 17.04 kernel 4.10.0-19 (last version with Unity desktop, next will be gnome)
Linux Mint 18.1 kernel 4.9-older
And most important the
NVIDIA linux 64bit v381.09 open source driver. I noticed great increase in speeds with unreal engine based games, GPU rendering for for blender and video editing software and multi monitor support fixes for some games.

Download links:
Ubuntu 17.04 desktop 64bit iso -> https://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop ... ture=amd64

Linux Mint desktop (several versions to your own flavor) https://www.linuxmint.com/download.php

Nvidia v381.09 opensource driver: https://launchpad.net/~graphics-drivers ... ubuntu/ppa

Easy and failsafe instructions for installing this new nvidia driver:
1 open terminal (press CTRL-ALT-T) and
Code: Select all
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:graphics-drivers/ppa

2 do an repo update
Code: Select all
sudo apt-get update

4 select the v381.09 driver and let it install (automatic, wait for a minute or two!!!)
5 go to OTHER SOFTWARE tab and remove the PPA repo again (just to be sure you not get a faulty update in the future)
6 reboot and ur done! 8-)

Open a terminal window.
Open the hosts file in a text editor (you can use any text editor) by typing the following line:

sudo nano /etc/hosts
Enter your domain user password.
Make the necessary changes to the file. Add:
Code: Select all master.gamespy.com

Press Control-x.
When asked if you want to save your changes, answer y.

Other hosts questions and answers can be found here on the forums: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=1813
