Windows 10

Postby dringus » Fri Feb 05, 2016 7:36 am

Thanks for anyone who can help. First off I am not very computer savy so reading about Direct X and drivers yada yada made my head hurt. So I bought a new computer, Windows 10 already installed. I installed BF42 and patch 1.6 and game loads. I sometimes can join a game but most of time screen goes black when try to join a game or if I got into a game and map was changing, screen would go black. Alt f4 or Esc do nothing. I would hit Ctrl Alt Delete to try and close BF with task manager but screen still black except for a few icons on taskbar at bottom of screen which won't do anything when clicked on. The only way to get computer back is to restart. I tried with compatibility mode off and also on with Windows 8, neither way work. I've heard that it can take a couple days for all the Windows updates to finish which can mess with game. So someone told me to reinstall Windows 10 which I just now did. I also read to install BF on a new partition because installing it on C: can cause issues. As I mentioned, I'm no computer wiz but can handle that I think. What size should I make it? I have the whole game pack and am installing, BF42, Road to Rome, Secrets, and BF Vietnam.

Also which patches should I DL from list at: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=2708&p=9588&hilit=patch#p9588

Thank you, I will not install and start working through issues until I get an answer about the partition first. Please any of you who can help would be greatly appreciated so I can get back up and medic bunny hopping and expack spamming! JK;)

Hi dringus, i had this same problem on the PB servers only some weeks ago.

2 things helped me :
- Lower your resolution to 1024x768 for example, no screen black anymore.

- But like i wanted keep the resolution 1920x1080, now i type twice "esc" and that's working for me.

Did you install the nocd widescreen https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BxvRmo2i0njkU1VvMWo4d00zN1U/view
Do you have directx.9 or directx.11 installed ?

I have the CDs and did the 1.6 patch. Brand new computer so whatever graphics card came with it.
The nocd widescreen is that for origin only?
Looks like I have Directx 12

Ok thanks, when I DL directx9 how do I switch to it instead of 12? Also I'm waiting to hear about the partition before I start plugging away on the rest.

So I created new partition, and tried the patches and game won't even open now, get the run as administrator and when I click run as administrator nothing happens. I also noticed when I try to run 1.61 and nocd widescreen patch nothing seems to happen. Is this because I saved game in a new partition and patches assume game was installed on drive C:?

Also does it matter where I store the extracted files for Directx 9? Thanks!
