It seems the community has taken a major hit with the official shutdown. It used to be at least ~400 players shown on the list, now it's about ~100 with the majority being fake (R.A.G.E. is especially guilty of this). It's really sad that this is happening. I'm also really surprised at how many people didn't even see the constant greytext reminding players of the impending shutdown and how to solve the problem. Is there anything else we can do at this point to get more legitimate players back online?

Indeed, it had a big reduction of players online but that was predictable.
But nothing lets think that it is the end.

- Information about remplacement master server has been widely diffused on all forums.
- On aX, ssk PMed all his database to inform all these players registered whom they can still played by installing just a little fix.
- Since somes times, i sent also many invitations on xfire to keep the contact to play BF42
- On youtube, 1 video has been created to promote still this game

All headadmin should PMed also all his database, it's the only one solution to contact player inactive in my opinion.

Nothing changed for me.
No freezes, no errors, nothing.
Can still use the whole mp-browser with all functions.
184 server with about 425 players found.
Didn't install any patch, program or whatever.
Did I miss something ? O_o

es blühen die Mimosen wie ein Lächeln von Dir,
es blühen Herbstzeitlosen, sagen tröstend zu mir:
Was macht es schon, wenn ich einmal verlier' ?

try whether update button works
there was a version that fixed the dead master freeze available before, you might be running that

Server is reaching full again and this is either due to it being a weekend or because people have searched for an update and now can join

it was full only for a moment
there's a tiny increase of population every day but it's still a far cry from what it used to be (especially when the population is currently spread only over 3 servers)

None of the information I see so far applies to Mac users, as best as I can tell, unless some of the files mentioned in the opening post area located somewhere on the Mac as well.
I get a freeze on my Mac as soon as I try to select internet, and see no way to get around that as of now...

you should add this line

109.71.69.254 master.gamespy.com

to /private/etc/hosts

if you don't know how to edit it, this video might help you

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=58qQ2OgyZ_o

you might also need to run this from the terminal, depending on your osx version (or just reboot)

dscacheutil -flushcache

let me know if that helps

Thanks for the input. I was able to add your line to the /private/etc/hosts file after looking at the video, but there is no change in behavior, even after a restart.

what OSX version?
have you tried running "dscacheutil -flushcache" in terminal?

if you do "ping master.gamespy.com" in terminal, what IP address does it ping?
